Three Saia employees are driving new Chrysler PT Cruisers today presented to them as the result of their safety records in the company's yearlong "Drive for the Gold" safety incentive. The winners are: Don Richardson, line driver from Memphis, TN, David Schoenewald, city driver from Phoenix, AZ and Reginald Caldwell, dockworker in Houston, TX.
The incentive began a year ago to recognize Saia employees who were injury-free and accident-free during the 12-month period. Eligibility by prize category was also determined by years of service. Winners were selected from a random drawing.
Schoenewald qualified as a safe driver for the period, as well as for the previous eight years; Caldwell has worked injury-free since he was hired 28 years ago; and Richardson has been accident-free in the 19 years with the company – which amounts to more than 2 million miles driven safely. Other employees receiving awards included:
- Eduardo Camacho, city driver, Los Angeles, presented with a $5,000 check, is accident-free since he was hired in 1997.
- Loyed Thompson, line haul driver, Charlotte, presented with a big screen television set, is accident-free since he was hired in 1996.
- Dwayne Devoe, dockworker, Atlanta, presented with a big screen television set, is injury-free since being hired in 1995.
- Deon Timms, dockworker, Dallas, presented with a $500 check, is injury-free since being hired in 1997.
- Irma Dominguez, clerk, El Paso, presented with a big screen TV, is injury-free since being hired in 1996.
- Kristene Searle, clerk, Salt Lake City, presented with a $500 check, is injury-free since being hired in 1992.
- Deborah Green, clerk, Pensacola, presented with a DVD player, is injury-free since being hired in 1995.
"I am extremely proud of all Saia employees who have shown they are safety-minded in this environment," said Saia President and CEO Rick O'Dell. "This program was successful in that it contributed to the company's improved safety performance."
